JUNE 2020 -- Music educator Angelo Moreno of the Davis Joint Unified School District will present a live stream concert on Sunday, June 7 with over 300 young musicians from six of the school district’s ensembles performing with Emmy-award winning violinist and composer Mark Wood and leading classical violin virtuosa Rachel Barton Pine. The concert, produced by Los Angeles production company The Live House, will represent the culmination of an online learning curriculum of virtual lessons, video tutorials, and concert videos that Angelo Moreno prepared in collaboration with the two artists.

Arts educators in the U.S. are searching for creative solutions to continue their programs amidst a global pandemic. With the cancellation of schools, rehearsals, and concerts, music teachers like Angelo Moreno face a monumental challenge: provide an effective music education while keeping the arts alive. “We believe more than ever that music is a force of healing and we appreciate having this positive connection to each other, even remotely through our collective talents and love for the arts.” Angelo Moreno states.

Angelo Moreno worked with The Live House founder, Nick Yoon, to handle the technical organization, compilation and distribution of over 300 student videos. “Music programs are struggling to find alternatives to continue their normal outreach activities,” Nick Yoon says. “Through this launch of multiple collaborators, musicians and educators, we hope to inspire other leaders in the arts and create content that revolves around their community.”

Angelo Moreno’s partnership with Mark Wood and Rachel Barton Pine has given students the opportunity to virtually play alongside two of the world’s leading musicians. “This exciting event will transform the student musicians into a full-fledged virtual Rock Orchestra as exciting arrangements of contemporary pop music plus selections by Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, and more entertain the audience!” Mark Wood says.

“I was looking forward to returning to Davis Senior High School Baroque Ensemble as part of my tour of Northern California this Spring.” says Rachel Barton Pine, who was ready to perform Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Violins in A minor with her daughter, Sylvia Pine and Angelo’s Davis High Baroque Ensemble. “As disappointed as I am to not be working together, through the miracle of modern technology, we’re still able to share part of our performance together.” she added.
